SafeMUSE joining for ECM's European Forum on Music

This year’s edition of the European Forum on Music (EFM) "Looking Back – Looking Forward" 7 - 10 June in Oslo will have a focus on freedom of expression, both through the artistic part of the program and with a conference session under the title Musicians as Responsible Citizens.

The artistic program features Sina Winter's band From the Vastland on Saturday 9 June and Safe Have Harstad's guest musician Hamid Sakhizada will be on stage Sunday 10 June together with Marthe Valle and Håvard Lund. This is in cooperation with Culture Troms and SafeMUSE.

The session on artistic freedom/ freedom of expression will have a panel discussion with Srirak Plipat (Freemuse), Sina Winter (From the Vastland), Jan Lothe Erikson (SafeMUSE) and Sara Whyatt (advisor of the Working Group Arts Rights Justice Europe and UNESCO Expert on freedom of artistic expression). The panel will be followed by a workshop. The session is developed in cooperation with the Working Group Arts Rights Justice Europe.

The EFM, annual conference of the European Music Council (EMC), will be hosted by the Norwegian Music Council and is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

With this edition of the EFM, the EMC would like to look at the importance and the value of musical heritage for our future European society. Music and intangible heritage in general are confronted with a variety of challenges: from participation and access to music to environmental threats. What is needed today to make sure that we can still enjoy Europe’s musical roots in the future?
